Perge laid down many a Tangerine Dream afficionado in horizontal,
immaculate excitement, when they chose a vaguely documented chapter
in the history of Tangerine Dream, to microscopic scrutiny, and
released the album Dyad .
Perge
triumphed, as they created new music from the melodic voids of tonal
displacements, transpositions and what have we not, Tangerine Dream
themselves, never got around to investigate.

 Dyad
had a peculiar quality in its tight focus. The proper follow-up,
Attalus , is much more far-reaching, but not less interesting.

In
the two-piece ”Attalus I” we get TD references en masse, build
around Pergamon , and ultimately Encore . It is raw
sequencer with creative figment of imagination, and fabulating,
epic roads to destinations unknown.

It
gets really interesting in ”Attalus II”, which in four parts
sucks out the final powers of Chris Franke's last days in Tangerine
Dream, and put them in a thorough perspective. Good thing that it
never becomes a far-fetched, nostalgic retrospective on old times.

After
a quick soundbite, resembling a fraction of ”Network 23”, we get
a capsule summary of the revival in the soundtrack business, in
recent years, where everyone besides Tangerine Dream was asked to do
the music. (Best result was was the soundtrack to dreadful Refn film
 Drive .)

In
admirable fashion Perge combines this cinematographic angle with
 Poland 's icecold, militant prototechno.

Track
five extinguishes itself from its use of discreet electric piano,
after a Vangelisish template.

Conclusively,
this logic successor to Dyad develops into an independent
microcoms, to use a very Edgaresque term. Ultimately, Attalus finds
its own world, as the creative powers behind the work has created an
unruly monster, far beyond the control of mr. Froese.

Perge lagde i fjor adskillig en
Tangerine Dream afficionado horisontalt ned i immakuleret

i sit snævre fokus.

i grundigt perspektiv.

Ultimativt finder Attalus
uregerligt monster langt udenfor hr. Froeses kontrol.

 This winter Edgar Froese
broke his arm and fractured his jaw, and at the same time Linda got very
ill, according to the statements from Eastgate.
As a matter of fact, the
logistically advanced prog cruise, Cruise To Edge , had to do
without one of the main attractions, and a considerable amount of
ticketholders, had to submit to great dissapointment.
 As a kind of compensation,
Cruise To Destiny was released a month later, and boasted of
being a recording from the rehearsal sessions, where sixty percent of
the final repertoire was committed to tape.
One could have hoped for a
kind of ”live in the studio” release. Instead we get – after
preference – half a Booster or a double ”cupdisc”.
 It is unbelivably hard to
spot anything live at all. Many of the cuts (including guitar solos)
sound completely copy-pasted from their respective releases, and the
(re-)recordings were probably those intended for the cupdisc to be
sold on the ferry.
 It's not that you can't
enjoy the music, as it appears. Good gracious, ”Betrayal” shines
by the use of themes from the second side of the Stratosfear
LP, and my door is always open for ”Too Hot For My Chinchilla”.
 What annoys me though, is
the that Cruise To Destiny , in reality, is a yet another
mediocre compilation, that we have come to know so thoroughly. When the pictures
in the booklet actually testifies that the band had lined up the
heavy live artillery, it is a shame that the bridges between tracks,
as well as the more live sounding instruments have vapourized.
Starmus – Sonic Universe , released the same day, is
fortunately of a completely different calibre.

progcruise, Cruise To The Edge , undvære en af hovedattraktionerne,

slags ”live i studiet” agtig udgivelse.
fra Stratosfear LP'ens anden side, og ”Too Hot For My Chinchilla”
står min dør altid åben for.
kaliber.

The result of a very special set at the Starmus Festival in sunny Tenerife, the album immortalizes an unlikely yet heavenly match, as Tangerine Dream join forces on stage with the legendary musician. May has earned himself a place in rock history with one of the most iconic bands of all times: Queen. Ambient pioneers Tangerine Dream were the first band ever to use Moog sequencer rhythm live on stage and are well known for their highly acclaimed Hollywood film scores. However, the fusion of such different talents is not the only thing making 'Starmus ' Sonic Universe' unique. The Starmus Festival was held in June 2011 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Juri Gagarin's first spaceflight; it was attended by spacemen Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, Alexei Leonow and Jim Lovell amongst others. The first track of the album, 'Supernova', features the real sound of acoustic pressure waves from stars, captured by astrophysicist Prof. Garik Israelian - also founder of the event. 'We did send it to Brian some time prior to the concert, so he had the chance to get an overall feel for this very progressive score' ' comments Edgar Froese ' 'He's not only an exceptional guitarist, but also a very open-minded artist to work with'. The second track on Starmus is May's solo hit Last Horizon: 'We knew that one already' ' says Edgar ' 'so it was easy for Brian to join on guitar'. Brian May is back again at the end of the set for Sally's Garden, a traditional Irish air arranged by Tangerine Dream, and a very special version of We Will Rock You with a coda 'largely improvised by us all on the spot' ' according to May. Tracklist CD 1 01. Supernova (Real Star Sounds) 02. Last Horizon 03. Marmontel Riding On A Clef 04. Trauma 05. Nothing And All 06. Nutshell Awakening 07. Shining Ray 08.
